Oswego baseball team wins series over Romeoville
Wodzisz hit gives Panthers another dramatic win in Game 3

Despite the recent weather, Oswego was able to win its first Southwest Prairie Conference series of the season.

The Panthers (6-5, 2-4 SPC) won Game 3 over Romeoville in dramatic fashion last Thursday, rallying from an 8-3 deficit to win 13-12.

"We played well on and off through the whole series," Oswego head coach Chris Neitzel said. "Nick Gerber pitched very well in relief. We were very fortunate to get that game because they're very similar to us and I knew it was going to be a tight series and I think that's going to be the case with a lot of teams."

Oswego trailed 3-0 early against Romeoville, but eventually came within two runs (12-10) thanks in part to junior Parker Meek's grand slam. Junior Tim Wodzisz knocked in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh. The Panthers' previous win over Romeoville also came in the bottom of the seventh inning on April 12.

"The thing we're concerned about is we've given up two or more runs in seven of the last eight games in the first inning, but the good news is we're six for seven," Neitzel said. "We're having a hard time getting started."

Gerber, a junior, earned the win in relief while senior Tyler Schwerin went 4-for-5 with two doubles, senior John Hugunin hit 4-for-5, senior Scott Allegretti went 3-for-4 and Meek hit 3-for-5.

On April 13, Oswego lost a 5-2 game to Romeoville despite Meek's efforts on the mound. Meek allowed no earned runs and struck out seven. Freshman Bryce Holm hit a home run while Hugunin had two hits.

"Parker pitched well; we just didn't hit that night," Neitzel said.

Oswego's newest series opener at Plainfield Central was postponed on Tuesday and a new date had not been set as of press time. The Panthers' rescheduled game against Naperville North was canceled last Friday, as was last Saturday's game at Kaneland.

Oswego was scheduled to host Plainfield Central on Wednesday, but results were unavailable at press time. The teams were scheduled to meet again today, Thursday, in Plainfield at 4:30 p.m.

"We'll give it the same go if and when we play this week," Neitzel said. "(Wednesday) is going to depend on how much work we're willing to do on the field. If we can get the water off, we might have a chance."

Oswego will start a new series at Minooka next Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
