The Oswego co-op gymnastics team is ready to show their home crowd just how far they've come this season.

The team will close out December with its annual eight-team Panther Invitational next Tuesday at noon. The meet will give head coach Sarah Dugan a closer look at her team four weeks before the Independent Conference Meet arrives.

"They love it," Dugan said of the Panther Invite. "They look forward to this meet every year. We want them to put all their new skills in by this meet so they have another month to perfect them and clean them up before the postseason."

December has been a big month for the co-op team. After an impressive win over Glenbard South with a score of 138.10, Oswego won a triangular over Batavia and Riverside-Brookfield on Dec. 15 with a score of 135.10, and traveled to Wheaton Warrenville South last Saturday for the Illinois Best Invitational.

Oswego finished seventh in the 12-team invite with a score of 66.25. Each team entered one all-around gymnast and a different gymnast in each of the other four events to make up the team score.

Glenbard West won the invite with a score of 71.975 while Lyons Twp. (71.65), St. Charles co-op (70.275) and Waubonsie Valley (69.675) rounded out the top four.

"There was some tough competition," Dugan said. "They invited a few new teams this year and two of them were top-placing teams. The girls did what we expected of them. We had a few falls here and there, but overall they did a good job."

Senior Vicky Hammond competed in the all around, scoring a 33.1. She had her highest point totals on floor (8.5) and vault (8.4) and scored an 8.35 on beam despite a fall.

Freshman Amanda Padlo represented Oswego on the floor and placed fifth with a score of 8.425 while freshman Gloria Pflederer placed eighth on beam with a score of 7.45. Freshman Kathryn Maher took fifth on the bars with an 8.3 and sophomore Kyla Price scored an 8.975 on vault to take fourth overall.

"They stuck their routines and did what was expected of them. We were happy," Dugan said. "Gloria was on the beam in a big varsity meet. We've pulled her up from JV in the last couple of meets. We're trying to improve every meet and some girls threw a few new skills and that's nice to see before the meets coming up."

Earlier in the week at Riverside-Brookfield, Oswego defeated Batavia (133.6) and R-B (111.25) with the team's score of 135.10.

On the vault, Price led the way with a 9.1, followed by Hammond (8.4), Pflederer (8.15) and Maher (8.1). Price was also the high scorer on bars with an 8.1, followed by Maher (8.0), Padlo (8.0) and Hammond (7.8). Hammond received a 9.2 on the balance beam followed by Maher (8.95), Price (8.65) and Padlo (7.95). Hammond and Price both scored an 8.9 on the floor while Padlo receivedn an 8.8 and Pflederer scored an 8.05 for the team.

"We had a few falls again there, but we were really excited because we beat both Batavia and Riverside-Brookfield. I'm looking to score that again before the end of the season. They're right where we expected them to be," Dugan said.

Following next Tuesday's Panther Invite, Oswego will return to competition on Jan. 9 at the Lincoln-Way East Invite at 1 p.m.
