Good news for dogs and their owners
Local dogs will have a place of their own to play within two years if the Oswegoland Park District's plans to open a dog park come to fruition. We hope they do.
Earlier this month park district staff members and a representative of the Oswego Park and Recreation Foundation unveiled a conceptual plan to develop the dog park in Jaycee Park along the west side of Douglas Road in Oswego. The plan shows the dog park situated on an unused, 3.1 acre section of the seven acre park, adjoining the creek. Importantly, the park already has a 27 space paved parking lot to accommodate the vehicles of dog owners, a picnic shelter, playground and other improvements.
The dog park itself would consist of two, separate fenced areas, one for small dogs and the other for larger dogs. Dog owners who would register their pets with the park district would be allowed to use the dog park.
Dog parks have proven immensely popular in many other communities in the Chicago area in recent years and we're certain local dogs and their owners would enjoy using one at Jaycee Park.
The park and recreation foundation is currently seeking donations to help pay for the installation of the dog park. Those residents or businesses interested in contributing can contact the foundation at firstname.lastname@example.org.
