Oswego approves Jimmy John's request
Sign amendment OK'd for Route 71 sandwich shop
by John Etheredge
A Jimmy John's sandwich shop will open in the Washington Square shopping center on Ill. Route 71 just west of Washington Street in Oswego.
The village board did its part to expedite the opening of the restaurant last week by approving a minor amendment to a previously approved development agreement for the shopping center.
Under the amendment, the Jimmy John's will be allowed to put up a wall sign on the exterior of its shop that is slightly larger than permitted under terms of the development agreement.
In a memo to the board, Rod Zenner, the village's community development director, recommended the board approve the amendment.
Zenner wrote: "Staff is of the opinion that the proposed increased sign area would not be detrimental to the adjacent businesses and would be consistent with other tenant signage within the commercial property."
The board approved the amendment as part of their consent agenda and without comment.
