Three Oswego School District administrators are set to leave the district this month following the approval of their resignations by the school district board June 9.

One of those administrators leaving the district is Director of Human Resources Joe Deeney who been with the school district for one year. He began his career in education in 2010, serving as a legal intern for the Niles Township High School District in Skokie, and then as a legal associate for the Niles Township District before coming to Oswego.

Elmhurst resident Roxana Sanders will be replacing Deeney in the role of Director of Human Resources effective July 1.

Sanders is currently the director of human resources at J. Sterling Morton High School District 201, where she has served in that role since 2012. Prior to that, she served as the human resources coordinator for District 201 from 2010 until 2012 and has also worked in human resources positions for The Salem Group in Oakbrook and The Travelers Companies in Naperville.

During Deeney's time in the Oswego School District, Deeney enhanced the new hire process by more fully utilizing the district's online system (Applitrack) to move from a highly paper-based process to an almost paperless process, which also helped to increase the efficiency and visibility to the new hire process.

Deeney also implemented the Aesop automated absence and substitute management system during the course of the school year, transitioning away from the call center and increasing the tracking and reporting of absences and substitute work.

His final salary with the district was $109,000 a year, including the IMRF Pension Contribution.

Dr. John Sparlin, assistant superintendent for administrative services said they are looking forward to having Sanders join the District 308 staff.

"As School District 308 strives for becoming world class, hiring the right teachers and administrators will be a key component of that," Sparlin said. "Roxana Sanders comes to us with previous human resources experience in an educational environment."

As director, Sanders will be responsible for compensation management, discipline management, labor relations management, as well as various other HR-related aspects of running a school district with over 1,800 employees.

"Strong human resources leadership can have a tremendous impact on the operating results of any company, but it is especially important in public education where the product is learning and ultimately the lives of our children," Sanders said.

Sanders earned a master's degree in school business management from Northern Illinois University, and a master's degree in business administration from DePaul University in Chicago. She has a professional educator license, a chief school business official (CSBO) endorsement, and a professional in human resources (PHR) certification.

Sanders IMRF salary will be $108,900.

Assistant Principal of Oswego East High School William Dwyer will also be leaving the district.

Dwyer has accepted a position in West Aurora School District 129 as Director of Secondary Teaching and Learning and will be finishing his role in Oswego on June 23.

He has been with the Oswego School District for the past two years in the role of assistant principal with a most recent salary of $87,870, including the district's contribution to the TRS fund.

While at OEHS, Dwyer implemented the during and after school tutoring program and also helped to dramatically increase the number of AP exams taken and passed.

Prior to serving at Oswego East, Dwyer served as the Division Director for Athletics, Science and Physical Education at Oak Lawn Community High School and also as a teacher and Assistant Principal for Activities and Athletics in School District 227.

The position of assistant principal for Oswego East High School is still currently open.

Assistant Director of Secondary Education Michael Purcell will be leaving the district on June 30 to accept the position of Director of Educational Services 6-12 in Kaneland School District 302.

Purcell has been with the district for one year and earned a salary of $79,500. His new position with District 202 will offer a salary of $102,500.

While in Oswego, Purcell increased the number of students enrolled in the Advanced Placement and Dual Credit courses and also developed and implemented an EC-12 Mathematics Curriculum aligned to State Standards and the Common Core State Standards.

Before coming to Oswego, Purcell served as assistant principal for Washington Junior High School and as the director of summer learning for Naperville Community Unit School District 203.

The position for assistant director of secondary education is also listed as open on the district website.
