About 120 veterans who have attended Oswego High School, will be honored by the school's Interact Club on Thursday, May 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the school.

Veterans being honored date back to those who served in World War I in 1917.

Four frames will be displayed with the photos of 30 veterans from OHS in each frame.

Paula Hilderbrand, faculty adviser, said the program is an idea of the school's Interact Club members. Interact is a student form of the Rotary Club, a service organization.

Under the leadership of Hilderbrand and student, Kevin Claus, they conducted a search of OHS graduates who served in the military.

Hilderbrand said the idea for the memorial came about when a fellow counselor took pictures of a "Wall of Honor" at a neighboring school.

"It's been extremely rewarding. The memorial will feature photos of former students in frames representing the various branches of service," she said.

Speakers at the May 8 event will be Michael Wayne, school principal; Tim McCann, chief judge for the 23rd Judicial Circuit in Kendall County and OHS graduate; Anna Dutton, president of the Interact Club board; and Hilderbrand.

Members of the Oswego American Legion will present the colors.

All the OHS seniors who will be joining the military after graduation, will be introduced, she said.

The event will be inside so attendees should enter through doors 35 or 37 on the football stadium side of the building because there is another event in the auditorium at the same time.

After the ceremony, refreshments will be served and special T-shirts will be on sale to raise money to offset costs of the event, she said.

Others involved who are on the Interact Board include Kevin Claus, Wall of Honor Committee chair; Olivia Lewis, secretary; Deaireish Brady, Pantherwalk Committee chair; Ben Escobar, Community Service Coordinator; and Amador Salinas, School Activity Coordinator.

Involved in the planning were Oswego High School alumni and families; Robert and Karen Claus; Marie Strejc of the OHS Graphics Department; Dylan Zimmerman, graphics student; Brian Allen, OHS Woods Department; Tom Dwyer, restaurant management program; Richard Radke from the Caterpillar Veteran's Group; Pat Gavros of the Oswego Rotary Club; Jill O'Neal, Student Services secretary; and the All-Sports Boosters.
