Wolves earn sizeable win over IMSA
Oswego East girls' soccer team falls in two heartbreakers

by Mike Slodki

A busy week for the Oswego East girls' soccer team saw the biggest goal output in awhile for a team that badly needed it. Unfortunately, the wave of offense couldn't keep up with the following two outings.

On April 23 off of Harvey Rd., the Wolves managed to wallop the visiting IMSA Titans by an 11-0 count, setting the two-game win streak for the Wolves at a 19-0 margin of victory. That was followed by a 5-4 loss to host Minooka last Thursday in Southwest Prairie Conference play. On Monday at West Aurora, a match played in risky weather was eventually called in the second half after the host Blackhawks gathered a 3-0 lead.

With less than three weeks remaining in the regular season, the Oswego East contingent sits at 3-8, with a 1-3 record in the Southwest Prairie Conference landscape.

In the sizable margin over IMSA, freshman Taylor Peck got things going off of a freshman Jasmine Ruiz assist, followed by freshman Alexe Anderson's goal off a freshman Maddy Lambert feed. Freshman Safia Hannin took her first of four goals in thanks to a feed from Peck, while Peck scored her second goal off a freshman Rachel Mieritz assist, while Hannin closed the first half at 7-0 with an unassisted try.

Second half scoring began with Ruiz off a senior Rene Niessner assist, while junior Jodie Makara put a ball in from an assist by junior Aryana Rasti. Lambert made it 10-0 on an unassisted try, while sophomore Abigail Glasgow finished the scoring column along with a Makara assist.

In the conference loss to the host Indians, a scoreless tie at halftime led to a 2-0 Minooka lead. Neissner (Hannin assist) and Hannin (Makara assist) were able to bring Oswego_East back, but Minooka went up 4-2. Makara finished a direct kick from Ruiz, and Hannin went in unassisted to tie matters at 4-4. Minooka punched in a shot with a minute to go for the final margin.

Against Blackhawk competition, a scoreless tie gave way to two West Aurora goals before a lightning delay with 12:29 remaining. After the 30-minute stoppage, the hosts would put in another goal. The match would be stopped for good at the four minute mark due to more lightning.

Ahead for Oswego East was a makeup match against Lake Park on Wednesday, with results unavailable at press time, followed by a home SPC match with Plainfield East today, Thursday, and a home meeting with Wheaton North on Monday.
