Oswego soccer team endures first loss, rebounds with win over Rosary

by Mike Slodki

4/3/2014

After suffering through stalemates through the opening two contests a week ago, the win/loss column sorted out for the Oswego girls' soccer team this past week.

March 26 saw an unfortunate 2-1 setback to host West Aurora, but the Panthers rallied for their first win of the 2014 slate by beating perennial area regional champions Rosary in a 4-1 road jaunt on Saturday morning.

Oswego has visited every part of the record column and sits at 1-1-2.

"We're getting them out there and they started to click. We got the team involved against Rosary and we're going to build off that," Oswego girls soccer head coach Brian Falli said on Tuesday.

Against the Blackhawks, the lone goal was tallied by sophomore midfielder Melissa Kasper on an assist by junior Mikaela Mockenhaupt. Senior Amy Annala had seven saves between the posts for Oswego.

Facing off against the Royals, Mockenhaupt had two goals and two assists in the win, while Panthers junior Kelsey Kraft and senior Lisa Dano supplied the other two. Junior teammate Taylor Bailey supplied an assist in the effort.

"It's a nice win," Falli said. "We switched formation a little bit going into Saturday and we found the net. We needed a jump and to step it up."

Oswego tries to best rival Oswego East in a crosstown matchup at Oswego as Southwest Prairie Conference play starts today, Thursday, at 4:30 p.m.

The Panthers also travel to West Chicago on Friday at 7 p.m. and host Upstate Eight Conference stalwart Waubonsie Valley on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
