Oswego East goes down kicking in loss to Downers Grove South

by Mike Slodki

3/27/2014

A young roster may need a little time to adjust to the trappings of a varsity gauntlet.

Such is the early case with the Oswego East girls' soccer roster this spring.

With the season officially kicking off with a loss to Glenbard South on March 18, the Oswego East crew - with two seniors and five juniors - tackled the turf at Downers Grove South of West Suburban Silver Conference fame on Saturday afternoon. The Wolves fought gamely, but lost 4-1.

Through two contests, the Wolves sit at 0-2 at the early crossroads.

The Mustangs gave up the Oswego East goal in the second half, when freshman Safia Hannin was fed by classmate Maddie Lambert for a punch-in. The two had exchanged goal/assist credit during the season opener against Glenbard South.

A Tuesday matchup was originally scheduled against Lake Park of DuPage Valley Conference notoriety was shifted to the Roselle home of the Lancers, then cancelled outright.

Weather permitting, the next challenges for Oswego East involved a Wednesday meeting in Darien at Hinsdale South, with results not available for press time. Additionally, the Wolves will meet up with host Lyons Township on Saturday at 11 a.m., and meet invading Rosary of Aurora on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Oswego East will travel to Oswego next Thursday, April 3 to open Southwest Prairie Conference play at 4:30 p.m. on the Panthers' field.

Correction: Maddie Lambert scored off an assist from Safia Hannin in the Wolves' 2-1 loss on March 18 to Glenbard South. Lambert was misidentified as older sister Miranda Lambert in the March 20 edition of the Ledger-Sentinel.
