Schafermeyer helped open kindergarten center; Senffner served nine years

by Lyle R. Rolfe

Two Oswego School District assistant principals will leave their positions at the end of this month to accept jobs in different school districts.

The departing staffers are Michelle Senffner, assistant principal at Bednarcik Junior High in Aurora, and Kathryn Schafermeyer, assistant principal at the East View Kindergarten Center in Oswego.

Two months ago Kathy Melton, who was the first principal of East View as a kindergarten center, announced that she was leaving the district at the end of this school year. She accepted a position as principal of Lowell Elementary School in Wheaton.

Melton and Schafermeyer had the distinction of opening the district's first kindergarten center.

While earning her bachelor of science degree in elementary education in 1993 from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Schafermeyer spent a semester student-teaching in Brisbane, Australia.

She spent her entire Oswego career at East View.

In the fall of 1994, she began teaching fifth grade at East View when it was still an elementary school.

In 1998, she became assistant principal at East View Elementary while completing her master of science degree in educational administration at Northern Illinois University.

She was a member of the Oswego District Leadership Team as an assistant principal for 13 years, serving East View, The Wheatlands, Boulder Hill, Lakewood Creek and Prairie Point elementary schools.

"Working with the families in the communities of the Oswego School District has been fulfilling and meaningful. I was fortunate to be part of a school district where quality learning experiences are provided to all of our students," she said.

Schafermeyer and her husband live in a neighboring community with their two children.

Senffner, an Aurora resident, attended Illinois State University where she earned a bachelor's degree in physical education.

She received her master's degree in administration from Aurora University in 2001.

Before coming to Oswego, Senffner, a graduate of West Senior High School in Aurora, served three years as dean of students at the school until 2001.

She then became dean of students at Jefferson Middle School in Aurora until 2004 when she came to Oswego as assistant principal of Bednarcik, a position she held for the past nine years.

On July 1, she will begin a new challenge as the assistant superintendent of Grundy/Kendall County Regional Office of Education.

Senffner and her husband Jason, a physical education teacher at Oswego East High School, have two children, a son, Peyton, and a daughter, Mackenzie.
