Even though the Oswego-Oswego East boys' swimming and diving team is a little restless these days, the squad is doing what it needs to do to be successful.

"Right now, the guys are really tired coming off Christmas training," head coach Deryl Leubner said. "Then they went right into finals week and didn't get a whole lot of sleep. They are just trying to practice hard now, and that's nothing new."

The team beat Riverside-Brookfield, 107-66, in a dual meet on the road on Jan. 8. They followed that with a second-place performance at nine-team tournament hosted by the Bulldogs on Saturday.

Andrew won the invite with a 290. Oswego and Lockport tied for second with a 279. Riverside-Brookfield scored 275, followed by St. Ignatius (255), University High (110), Morris (92), Shepard (81) and St. Rita of Cascia (40).

"We had some great swims and swam well as a team in the relays," Leubner said.

Senior Pierce Parlier won the 200-yard IM in 2:20.15 and also was first in the 100-yard backstroke in 54.75.

He was also a part of two relay teams that placed second. The 200-yard medley team of Parlier, sophomore Quinn Parlier, senior Bucky Coonradt and freshman Tyler Guist clocked in at 1:42.76.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Coonradt, Pierce Parlier, senior Andrew Carlson and senior Zak Thoreson fell just short of first place with their second-place time of 1:30.78.

Carlson went first in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:47.35 and third in the 100-yard freestyle (49.05).

Coonradt placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (52.72) and in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.52) and Thoreson also went second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:55.61).

Quinn Parlier placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.79. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Carlson, Thoreson, Quinn Parlier and Guist ended up in fourth in 3:25.34.

The 200-yard medley relay team of freshman Michael Latzke, sophomore Cody Padlo, freshman Rhys Johanns and freshman Mark Urso time of 2:00.30 was good enough for fifth. The same four also competed in the 200-yard freestyle relay and finished sixth (1:44.83).

The divers were scheduled to attend Hinsdale Central's Invite on Saturday, but Leubner decided not to send them. They were not at the Riverside-Brookfield meet, either.

"They did not get enough practice over Christmas break, so they stayed back and practiced," Leubner said. "We tied Lockport, and they got 29 points from diving. We swam really well, but had no diving at the meet."

At the dual meet at Riverside-Brookfield, the team placed first in 10 of 12 events.

"(Riverside-Brookfield) didn't want to swim their lineup (against us) two meets in a row," Leubner said. "We are pretty type-set. We don't have enough guys to be really creative with our lineup."

Pierce Parlier was tops in the 200 IM (2:04.35) and 100-yard backstroke (55.94).

Thoreson won the 200 free in 1:53.64 and the 500 free in 5:06.46.

Carlson won the 50 free in 22.61 and the 100 free in 49.36. Coonradt also grabbed a pair of first-place finishes in the 100 butterfly (53.05) and 100 breaststroke (1:04.85).

The 400 free relay team of Carlson, Coonradt, Quinn Parlier and Thoreson went first in 3:26.93 and the 200 free relay team of the same four clocked in for a first-place time of 1:33.90.

Riverside-Brookfield won diving and the 200-yard medley relay. Pierce Parlier, Guist, senior Michael Ebinger and Padlo finished second in that event in 1:48.70.

Oswego-Oswego East hosted Plainfield's co-op on Tuesday, but results were not available at press time.

"Plainfield is up-and-coming and have kids who are improving," Leubner said.

The team will host IMSA and West Aurora today, Thursday, at 5 p.m. They will not compete again until Jan. 24 at Morris.

"IMSA was 15th in the state last year," Leubner said. "They have two legitimate Division-I caliber athletes. We will have our work cut out for us."
