Panera Bread's plan to relocate its Oswego restaurant received the endorsement of the village board Tuesday evening.
In a unanimous ballot, board members approved final development plans for a new building that will house Panera and two other businesses on an outlot at 1450 Douglas Road in the Gerry Centennial Plaza shopping center.
Gerry Centennial Plaza is currently home to numerous retail stores, including a Meijer and Old Navy.
Panera Bread has operated since 2002 out of a multi-tenant building in the Oswego Commons shopping center at 2970 U.S. Route 34.
Steve Jones, village administrator, said prior to Tuesday's board meeting that Panera officials were seeking the new location because it will allow them to offer a drive-up window to patrons.
According to the approved plans, the new Panera will be located in a three unit building immediately north of another building that houses a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant.
In a memo to the board, Kasey Evans, a village planner, noted the building will house a Panera and "a potential laundromat with valet service and one additional retail space."
Evans noted the Panera and Laundromat are both permitted uses under the B-3, retail business, zoning classification previously approved for the property.
