In the last meet of 2012, the Oswego-Oswego East boys' swimming and diving team placed third at Waubonsie Valley's Pentathalon on Dec. 27.
The host Warriors won the nine-team event with a 20,410, followed by Cary-Grove (20,090), Oswego (19,481), Normal U-High (19,393), Plainfield co-op (19,224), Lincoln-Way East (18,942), Champaign Central (17,795), Naperville North (16,818) and West Aurora (12,933).
"We were winning throughout the whole meet until the end, when we had a false start," Oswego-Oswego East head coach Deryl Leubner said. "But we treat this meet like a warm-up. Last year (when the team won the meet), we were a team with a lot of IM'ers and ironically, we won it on a false start. U-High false started, and we ended up winning. This year, we ended up getting a lot of our points in freestyle events."
In the 50-yard free, senior Bucky Coonradt clocked in at 22.97, Andrew Carlson 23.15, Pierce Parlier 23.31, Quinn Parlier 23.65 and Tyler Guist 25.42.
In the 100-yard fly, Coonradt led Oswego in 54.57, followed by Quinn Parlier (56.82), Pierce Parlier (57.56), Carlson (57.75) and Guist (1:01.75).
In the 100-yard backstroke, Pierce Parlier led the way in 54.85, followed by Coonradt (58.25), Quinn Parlier (58.46), Guist (1:01.99) and Carlson (1:05.79).
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Pierce Parlier clocked in at 1:06.16, Quinn Parlier 1:08.08, Guist 1:13.21, Carlson 1:13.26 and Coonradt was DQ'd.
In the 200-yard free, Carlson led the way in 1:51.15, Quinn Parlier 1;51.56, Pierce Parlier 1:52.98, Coonradt 1:55.11 and Guist 1:56.31.
"We had some good swims," Leubner said. "It was a good, solid effort."
Oswego opens 2013 at Fenton today, Thursday, at 5 p.m. The meet at Riverside-Brookfield has been moved from Jan. 10 to Tuesday due to finals.
"The big focus is on that meet - it's the one we want to be sharp for," Leubner said.
The team will see Riverside-Brookfield just a few days later at the Riverside-Brookfield meet on Jan. 12 at noon.
