A fourth term for Montgomery president?
Michelini says she will announce her plans after Nov. 6 election

10/18/2012

Montgomery Village President Marilyn Michelini said this week she has yet to decide if she will seek a fourth term as village president next year.

Prospective candidates for the village president, village clerk and three seats on the village board can now circulate petitions to have their names placed on the April 9, 2013 ballot.

Petitions can be picked up at village hall 200 North River Street in the village's downtown.

The filing period for petitions will be from Monday, Dec. 17 through Monday, Dec. 24, also at village hall.

Michelini said Monday she has yet to take out a petition and is weighing her options.

She added, however, she will announce her plans in about 30 days.

Referring to the Nov. 6 presidential election and her pending announcement, Michelini said, "It will be after the big election."

Michelini was first elected village president in an uncontested race in 2001. She succeeded Ellis Van Meter who chose not to seek re-election.

Michelini won a second term in 2005 by fending off a challenge by long-time board member Pete Heinz.

Michelini ran un-opposed for a third term in 2009.

Prior to her election as village president in 2001, Michelini had served 14 years on the village board. In addition to her service with the village, she was an appointed member of the Kane County Board from 1982-1983.

She has lived in the village for the past 54 years.

During her tenure as village president, the village has grown from a community with fewer than 5,000 people to more than 18,000 as counted in the 2010 U.S. Census.

To keep up with the growth, the village constructed a new police station in 2005 and a new village hall in 2008.

In addition, village staff-working at the board's direction-secured agreements with the Oswego Public Library District to construct a library in the village in 2009 and with the Oswego Fire Protection District to build a fire station in 2004.
