PADS program needs your help
10/18/2012

Kendall County's PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter) program opens for the winter this Sunday, Oct. 14.

For the past two years, the PADS program has served anyone who is homeless from seven participating county churches:

•Sundays, Cross Lutheran Church, 8609 Route 47, south of Yorkville.

•Mondays, Yorkville Congregational United Church of Christ, 409 Center Parkway, Yorkville.

•Tuesdays, United Methodist Church of Plano, 219 N. Hale St., Plano.

•Wednesdays, Harvest Baptist Church, 5315 Douglas Road, Oswego.

•Thursdays, Trinity Church United Methodist, corner of Route 47 and Cannonball Trail, Yorkville.

•Fridays, Church of the Good Shepherd United Methodist, 5 W. Washington, Oswego.

•Saturdays, St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 63 Fernwood Road, in Boulder Hill.

Each of the churches will be open on the designated day from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

PADS volunteers-who are not necessarily members of the churches where the program is offered-provide those in need with a hot dinner in the evening, breakfast in the morning and a lunch-to-go.

In its first year of operation, PADS reported 703 overnight stays at the participating churches. Last year, the number of overnight stays increased to 1,107.

This year's program will continue through the winter months, ending on April 15, 2013.

Providing for the homeless can be both challenging and time-consuming. Not surprisingly, the PADS program continues to need volunteers at some of the church sites. We encourage county residents age 18 and older to consider volunteering to assist this needed and most worthwhile program.
