After a winless streak that began the Oswego East boys' soccer season, it's easy for players to wonder when that elusive first win will appear.
Oswego East waits no more.
Finishing off the Red Devil Cup hosted by Hinsdale Central in style, Oswego East defeated Chicago's Brother Rice on Saturday in a 4-0 contest.
It was welcome coming off the heels of a 3-0 loss to head coach Steve Szymanski's alma mater last Thursday, Downers Grove South.
Through five contests on the year, the Wolves are 1-3-1 after an off-season of transition in which 70 goals from the 2011 roster were lost.
Oswego East's output against visiting Brother Rice mostly came at the hands of junior Nate Paisley's first varsity hat trick.
With all four goals coming in the final 40 minutes of action, the Wolves' Paisley went net-bound at the 2:56, 10:30 and 12:00 mark of the second half. Senior Oliver Czopek capped the scoring 100 seconds later with an assist from Alex Torres.
The first goal was unassisted, while the second goal had a helping foot from senior Alex Torres and the third goal from senior David Hernandez.
Szymanski found several emotions from the win.
"I feel that the win is definitely a relief we played a very good second half and hopefully it is a sign of things to come," Szymanski said. "Nate did a really nice job in finishing his opportunities and it was nice to see."
Also nice to see was a shutout in goal demonstrated by Sean Phetchanpheng.
Meanwhile, results of Tuesday's Southwest Prairie Conference tilt in Minooka were unavailable at press time, as well as Wednesday's non-conference game against Lockport.
The Wolves soldier on with a trip to West Aurora on Saturday, and a visit from Plainfield East on Tuesday.
