After more than three months of interviews, the vacant athletic director position at Oswego East High School has been filled - temporarily.
The Oswego School Board approved the hire of two interim athletic directors - Jack Drollinger and Doug Smith - for the 2012-13 school year at Monday's meeting - just nine days before the official start of the fall athletic season.
The first day of practice for all fall sports is Wednesday, Aug. 8.
Drollinger and Smith are both retired and will be limited to 100 days each during the upcoming school year to abide by Illinois Teachers' Retirement System (TRS) requirements.
Drollinger was a longtime athletic director at Fremd High School in Palatine before retiring in 2008, while Smith worked for 28 years as an athletic director - including eight years at Naperville North before retiring in 2011.
Drollinger most recently worked as interim co-athletic director at St. Charles East for the 2011-12 school year.
"We will have them through this school year, and at some point in time - hopefully late winter or early spring - we'll open up our search for a permanent position," said Oswego East principal Dr. Jeff Craig. "They both have a wealth of experience, so they're highly-respected. We have some missions for them to work on with our coaches and we look forward to working with them, and getting a permanent position this spring."
