A Montgomery couple aims to bring a hot dog cart to the parking lot of the former Montgomery Village Hall.
Jeff and Raquel Thomas brought their proposal for Nate'z Dogz Hot Dogs to the Village Board's committee of the whole meeting Tuesday evening as part of a request for a stationary food vendor permit.
The request will be reviewed again by the board and voted on at their regular board meeting, scheduled for next Monday, June 25, at 7 p.m. at Village Hall, 200 North River Street.
The hot dog cart would be located in the parking lot of Genesis Community Church at 1300 South Broadway Avenue, the former Village Hall. The site is directly to the east of Porter Park and South Broadway Park.
According to a letter sent by the Thomases to the village's Community Development Department, the cart would offer a variety of products.
"Our vending cart will offer a selection of uniquely dressed hot dogs, including the Arizona Dog, the Chicago Dog, the Mexican Dog, Montreal Dog, in addition to regular and turkey hot dogs," the Thomases wrote. "For sale on our cart will also be a variety of sodas, water, chips, and assorted snacks (i.e., cookies, candy bars, cotton candy, etc.)."
The letter also states that the couple is renting a Kane County Health Department-approved kitchen from Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Aurora.
According to an agreement with Genesis Community Church, the couple will be allowed to operate their cart between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Village Planner Jerad Chipman said the setbacks and other requirements meet village code.
Jeff Thomas said he and his wife want to eventually bring a business to downtown Montgomery.
"We want to stay in Montgomery," Thomas said.
Village President Marilyn Michelini said she was in favor of the proposal, and no village board members offered objections to the idea.
"This is great; fantastic," Michelini said.
