Shannon Lueders will take over the reins as principal of Thompson Junior High on Boulder Hill Pass in Oswego this fall.
But it will be hard to tell any difference because the only visible change will be Lueders having moved her belongings across the hall to the principal's office from the assistant principal's office that she has occupied for the past five years.
Lueders was named to the new post at Monday's Oswego School Board meeting, effective July 1.
She replaces Tracy Murphy who resigned at the end of this school year to accept a principal position at Gower Middle School in Burr Ridge.
Murphy was Thompson principal for 11 years, assistant principal for one year, and was with the district for 17 years.
"Regarding the new position, I am very excited to take over the principalship at Thompson," Lueders said.
"We have amazing students, a wonderful staff, and very supportive parents. I'm looking forward to continuing the tradition of academic excellence at Thompson.
"Tracy Murphy has been a great mentor for me over the last five years and I have learned a lot from her," she added.
Lueders began her educational career at Jefferson Middle School in the West Aurora School District in 1998 as a career education teacher. She served as a technology teacher from 2000 to 2002, acting dean/counselor, from 2002 to 2003 and was named dean/counselor from 2003 until 2007 when she came to Thompson as assistant principal to Murphy.
Lueders has a bachelor's degree in history from Western Illinois University and a master's degree in educational leadership from Aurora University.
"We are pleased to be able to have Shannon take the next step in her administrative career without leaving her current building," Superintendent Dr. Dan O'Donnell said.
"Shannon is an outstanding young administrator who will be a perfect fit for Thompson Junior High. Her experience as an assistant principal at the school has well prepared her to take on the building leadership role as principal," O'Donnell added.
Lueders base salary will be $86,523 or $95,500 with the district's contribution to the Teachers Retirement System (TRS).
Murphy's base salary was $86,523 base salary or $109,352 with the TRS contribution. She had been Thompson principal for 11 years.
Lueders, originally from Montrose, Iowa, lives in Aurora with her family including three children, Jake, Abby and Erin, and her husband, Steve, a 24-year veteran officer in the Aurora Police Department.
