The Village of Oswego will use a $1 million grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity to resurface several streets in the village later this year.
As approved by the village board Tuesday evening, the village's public works department will seek contractor bids to resurface the following streets: Wolf's Crossing Road, between Ill. Route 71 and U.S. Route 30; Hawthorn Court; Adams Street from Washington Street to Van Buren; Pfund Court; and Old Post Road from Old Post School to Douglas Road.
In addition, bids will be sought for the resurfacing of the following streets in the Fairway Crossing Subdivision at the northeast corner of Route 34 and Boulder Hill Pass: Chesterfield Drive; Cinderford Drive; Cinederford Court; Landshire Court; Preswick Court; Tewksbury Circle; Tewksbury Court; Thornbury Drive; and Thornbury Court.
Bids will also be sought for the resurfacing of the following streets in the new Windcrest Subdivision: Lombardy Lane, Longford Court; Nottingham Drive and Nottingham Court.
In a memo to the board, Jerry Weaver, the village's director of public works, noted the village will split the cost for the Wolf's Crossing Road resurfacing with the Oswego Township Highway Department.
Weaver said Gary Grosskopf, the township highway commissioner, has agreed to have his department pay for resurfacing the sections of Wolf's Crossing Road that are located in unincorporated Oswego Township.
Weaver also noted his department may be able to schedule additional streets for resurfacing once contractor bids are opened.
He added the streets currently scheduled for resurfacing will not complete the village's list of streets in most need of resurfacing, but said "it will definitely help out."
According to a public works department survey, streets that have been given a four rating on a scale of one to four are in most need of resurfacing.
Weaver said an additional $750,000 would be needed to resurface all remaining four rated streets.
Weaver also noted in his memo the village will spend approximately $100,000 out of its $1 million state grant for engineering and construction observation for the pending resurfacing projects.
In other business Tuesday evening, the board authorized village police to purchase three Ford Next Generation Police Inceptor squad cars at a total cost not to exceed $71,747 through a State of Illinois bid program.
The three squad cars will replace three marked squad cars now in the department's fleet.
In addition, the board approved the purchase of a late model used vehicle from a local dealer from the department at a cost not to exceed $15,180.
In a memo to the board, Capt. Nicholas Sikora noted the used vehicle will replace one now used by department detectives.
