Oswego is now known throughout the lower Fox Valley area as being a destination for many national brand big box retailers and restaurant chains. But what visitors and, perhaps, many new residents may not realize is the village's business community is made up of many more, smaller, family-owned businesses. Many of these businesses were operating in the village long before the first big box stores and restaurants arrived out on U.S. Route 34.
Thanks to the efforts of the Oswego Chamber of Commerce, this Saturday, April 14, area residents will have an opportunity to become better acquainted with many village businesses at the Oswego Business and Consumer Expo. The annual chamber-sponsored event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the fieldhouse at Oswego High School. Admission is free.
At the expo, representatives from over 100 local businesses will be on hand to discuss their businesses and demonstrate their many products and services.
Based on prior years, we predict that those who do attend will be impressed and pleased to see the wide-variety of businesses that operate in the village.
It was enterprising small business owners that established the village's first small commercial area on Main Street in the mid-19th century. Now, in the 21st century, a mix of successful small and large businesses is needed to assure the village remains a vibrant and desirable place to live and work. You can show your support for local businesses and the community by attending the expo and learning more about the goods and services they offer right at home. We hope to see you Saturday.
