Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan and his minions did Kendall County no favors in re-drawing the legislative boundaries for state and Congressional Districts last year. The Dems carved up the county into two different Congressional districts, four state house and four state senate districts. Conversely, the Republicans running the Kendall County Board ignored the county's massive population growth over the past decade and refused to make any significant changes in the boundaries of the board's two representative districts. In politics it's all about control and power-even at the county level.
Fortunately, there are two fresh faces on the ballot for county board seats who, we believe, will work to bring a new level of accountability to county government-including the county's elected constitutional officers.
In the board's district one, we endorse Judy Gilmour, a Yorkville resident and retired Oswego School District teacher. We find Gilmour to be thoughtful, educated and independent minded. In the board's district two, we endorse Scott Gryder, an Oswego attorney who currently serves on the Oswego Public Library District Board and is past chairman of Oswego's plan commission. In seeking election to the board, Gryder has actively sought the support from all factions of the divided county GOP. We believe the board badly needs Gryder's consensus building skills and he would be an able representative on the board for the Oswego-Montgomery area.
In the Democratic race for the 11th Congressional District, we endorse Bill Foster, while on the Republican side we support Judy Biggert. Although we disagree with both Foster and Biggert on some issues, they understand that simply saying no and refusing to work with members of the opposition political party does not make for good government.
In the Democratic race for 84th state representative district, we endorse Aurora Alderman Stephanie Kifowit. Kifowit is a Marine Corps veteran who holds a master's degree in public administration from Northern Illinois University. She is a hard working alderman and well versed in the issues confronting the newly drawn 84th district. We believe she will make an effective state lawmaker.
